Great post. Thanks for the resources!
Nice to hear the history of the day. I guess it was never mentioned in school as we were not there to listen! Great resource ideas.
I hope you had a wonderful day, Julie!
That’s a great idea and I’m popping over to Pat’s blog now too.
I love her blog for providing resources to talk about the tough issues.
Great to see these age appropriate resources, Kirsten.
I love The MiniPage.
Great idea to talk to children about Memorial Day. Happy (late) Memorial Day!
I hope your family had a nice day.
Yes, we spoke with the kids about honoring those who serve for us. Although they may not totally understand, it felt good to start the dialogue.
My three-year-old said, “On Memorial Day, do we celebrate soldiers?” I figured that was a concise explanation.
We went to a cemetery and talked about the flags near the graves. The service men usually had their position in the military listed on the headstone, so that was a good place to start talking about sacrifice. Then we took them to a playground (to appreciate our freedom with a little fun).
What a wonderful way to celebrate, Hannah. I think the service men and women would have approved of playing at the playground.
