Write and Finish Your Children’s Nonfiction Book in 2026 | Reimagine Insiders

If you’ve been circling the same children’s nonfiction book idea for months—or even years—you’re not alone.
You have an idea. You have the research skills. You might even have pages of notes scattered across notebooks and browser tabs.
But somehow, you never quite finish.
Here’s the truth: The hardest part of writing children’s nonfiction isn’t finding compelling ideas. It’s understanding your audience and staying with a project long enough to shape it into a submission-ready (or publication-ready) manuscript.
Most children’s nonfiction writers get stuck not because they lack talent, but because they’re trying to do complex, long-term work alone without structure, guidance, or community support.
Why Most Children’s Nonfiction Projects Never Get Finished
After teaching and coaching hundreds of children’s nonfiction writers over the past decade, I’ve identified the most common roadblocks:
The Research Roadblock
You dive into research with enthusiasm, but soon you’re drowning in sources. You have 47 browser tabs open, three library books overdue, and no clear system for organizing what you’re finding. You never transition from research to drafting because you’re not sure you have “enough.”
The Perpetual Draft
You finally start writing, but you can’t silence your inner editor. You revise the first page seventeen times while the rest of the manuscript remains unwritten. Or you draft quickly but have no idea how to revise what you’ve created.
The Revision Spiral
You revise endlessly, tweaking words and moving paragraphs, but you’re not sure if you’re making it better or just making it different. Without external feedback or clear revision strategies, you tinker indefinitely.
The Submission or Publication Paralysis
Even when your manuscript feels “done,” you’re terrified to submit or finalize it for publication. You don’t know if it’s ready, how to write a query letter, or the best way to get your book into readers’ hands. So it sits in your drawer—polished but unsent.
Sound familiar?
These aren’t signs of failure. They’re signs that you need what every successful writer needs: structure, expert guidance, and a supportive community.
What It Really Takes to Finish a Children’s Nonfiction Book
Writing children’s nonfiction requires a unique set of skills that most writing courses don’t address:
- Research methodology for finding and evaluating primary and secondary sources
- Story structure that works for both narrative and expository nonfiction
- Craft techniques for making factual content engaging for young readers
- Revision strategies for strengthening hook, argument, and emotional arc
- Accountability to keep moving forward when motivation stalls
You also need time to develop your project thoughtfully. Many nonfiction projects take six months or even years! They can’t be rushed.
That’s exactly what Reimagine Insiders provides.
Introducing Reimagine Insiders: A Year-Long Community for Children’s Nonfiction Writers
Reimagine Insiders is a paid membership community designed specifically for children’s nonfiction writers who want to move from idea to submission (or publication) across 12 months.
This isn’t a course you rush through alone in six weeks. It’s not expensive one-on-one coaching. It’s the middle ground where with monthly milestones and the opportunity to work at your own pace, while group learning creates momentum.
How Reimagine Insiders Works
Monthly Craft Lessons On the 15th of each month, you receive focused craft teaching aligned with exactly where you are in the writing process. In January, you’re learning about idea development. In May, you’re studying story structure. In November, you’re crafting pitches and query letters.
Monthly Group Coaching Calls (90 minutes, recorded) We meet live once a month at 3 p.m. Eastern / noon Pacific on the first or second Friday. They’re interactive coaching sessions where you can:
- Ask questions about your specific project challenges
- Hear how other writers are working through similar problems
- Learn from the collective wisdom of the group
- Get unstuck
Can’t make it live? Every call is recorded and available within 24 hours.
Private Community Space Between calls, members connect in an asynchronous community space to share progress, ask questions, troubleshoot challenges, and stay accountable. You’re never working in isolation.
Bonus Pop-Up Tool Sessions Throughout the year, I host practical demonstrations of tools that support nonfiction writing: Scrivener for organizing research and writing, OneNote for research, MyBib.com for managing bibliographies, and more.

What Makes Reimagine Insiders Different from Other Writing Programs
Not a Course
In a typical online course, you’re alone with pre-recorded videos on an accelerated timeline. There’s no live support, no community, no adaptation to your specific project needs.
Reimagine Insiders provides ongoing guidance, live coaching, and peer learning throughout your entire writing journey.
Not 1:1 Coaching
One-on-one coaching typically costs $150-250 per session.
In Reimagine Insiders, you pay just $5/month and learn from everyone’s questions, challenges, and breakthroughs—not just your own.
Not a Vague Community
Many writing communities offer general support but no clear direction. You get encouragement but not structure.
Reimagine Insiders provides both: a supportive community AND a clear, proven path from idea to submission.
Who Reimagine Insiders Is For
This community works best for children’s nonfiction writers who are:
Ready to commit to at least one project for a full year. If you work faster, great! You are free to work on more ideas.
Writing for any age level The curriculum works for magazine articles, picture books, chapter books, middle-grade, and young adult nonfiction. The craft principles apply across formats.
Open to different publishing paths: The craft skills transfer to any publishing path, whether you choose to find an agent, submit to editors on your own, or self publish.
Looking for structure without rigidity You want guidance and deadlines, but you also need flexibility to work at your own pace.
Willing to engage with community You learn best through conversation, reflection, and peer interaction.
Committed to revision You understand that good writing is rewriting, and you’re willing to revise thoughtfully based on feedback.
Who This Isn’t For
Reimagine Insiders may not be the right fit if you’re:
- Looking for quick results or shortcuts
- Expecting intensive one-on-one attention every week
- Not ready to focus on a single project for an extended period
- Preferring passive learning
- Are seeking skip-the-line access to agents and editors

Frequently Asked Questions About Reimagine Insiders
What if I don’t have a project idea yet?
Perfect! Months 1-2 are dedicated entirely to idea development and testing. You’ll have structured support to explore possibilities, evaluate viability, and commit to an idea with confidence.
What if I fall behind or miss a month?
All calls are recorded and craft posts remain accessible. The community space is asynchronous, so you can catch up whenever life allows. This is a year-long journey, not a race with hard deadlines.
Can I join if I’m working on middle-grade or YA nonfiction?
Absolutely. The program works for picture books, chapter books, middle-grade, and young adult nonfiction plus magazine writing. You’ll adapt the timeline to your project length. Some modules may take longer for MG or YA book-length projects.
Will I get individual feedback on my manuscript?
Reimagine Insiders focuses on craft teaching, group coaching, and peer critique exchanges (we match you with critique partners in Months 9-10). It’s not a manuscript critique service, though you will be invited to share work with for group coaching (not full manuscripts). If you need developmental editing, I offer separate critique services.
How much time should I plan to invest?
Plan for 3-5 hours per month: one 90-minute group call + reading monthly craft posts + working on your project. Most members find this integrates naturally into existing writing time.
What’s the refund policy?
You can cancel your monthly membership anytime—you simply won’t be charged the following month. Annual memberships are non-refundable.
Will I really finish my manuscript in one year?
That depends on your starting point and project complexity. Picture book writers often finish faster. Middle-grade and YA writers may use the full year. The structure and support remain consistent regardless of your pace. What matters is that you’ll have a clear path forward and won’t be working alone.

Here’s what I know after years of teaching children’s nonfiction writers:
You don’t need more ideas. You need to test and strengthen your idea for your target audience.
You don’t need more research tips. You need a system for organizing research so you can actually use it and the knowledge of what research should make it into your writing.
You don’t need more writing advice. You need a structured process that takes you from draft to submission.
And you don’t need to do any of this alone.
Reimagine Insiders gives you everything you need to write and finish your children’s nonfiction book in 2026.
Clear structure through every phase. Expert craft teaching when you need it. Monthly coaching to keep you moving forward. A community of writers who understand exactly what you’re working on.
All for $5/month.
Our first group coaching call is January 9, 2026 at 3 p.m. Eastern.
By December 2026, you could be holding a submission-ready manuscript.
Or you could spend another year circling the same ideas.
The choice is yours.
